Connie Gwilliam (Peterson)  (1945-2011)

Connie Lee Peterson passed away on July 24, 2011 after many years of suffering with Alzheimer's disease.  Connie, better known as "Nana" in her later years, was dedicated to her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Born on December 22, 1945 to Thomas Valentine and Pauline Bigler Gwilliam, she cherished her childhood growing up in Holladay, Utah.  Connie graduated from Olympus High School and in 1975 married her sweetheart Dee S. Peterson.  Together they raised their three daughters and one son in Sandy, Utah for 27 years.  In 1998, Connie and her family moved into a home they built on the same property where she grew up in Holladay.

Connie was the best Mom and Nana anyone could ever ask for.  She chose a career of full-time mom, which was greatly appreciated by her children and grandchildren.  She supported her children and grandchildren by always showing up to every event each one participated in, no matter how small.  When her oldest grandson, James, was a young child, Connie's two youngest children thought he was their brother, which shows how much time he spent with his Nana.  Brad, Brian, Luke, and Abigail also spent a great amount of time with their Nana. You would often find Connie on the floor playing a game or reading a book to them.  Connie also considered her friends as family and has many wonderful, life-long friends that she enjoyed planning events with and traveling.

Connie is survived by her husband, Dee, children, Kim (Monte), Allison (Bill), Alecia (Will), Ryan (Jen); her five grandchildren; and sisters LaVon and Colleen.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Dale and Don; sister Joan; and her "furry" children, Buffy and Ranger.  Connie's family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the caring professionals at Hearthstone Manor, Access Hospice, and St. Mark's Hospital, especially Thomas! We truly appreciate the phenomenal care you gave to our Nana!

Please join Connie's family in a celebration of her life on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 1950 East 10600 South Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services and Friday, July 29, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at the same location. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Connie's family respectfully requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Utah.

Beautiful Connie was my neighbor and friend growing up a few blocks away. What good memories I have of such a fun, gorgeous, talented girl. Oakwood Elementary, Olympus Jr. and Oly High..walking to church along 2300 east and waaaay "down Fardown".off to school we went! WALKING both ways with smiles and giggles..I would always ditch my snow boots in the field and get to school with snowy wet feet! Did you do that too? Hmmm..You are precious..such heart -warming memories! xoxoPam Smith (Nelson) (Christine was with us too!  Did she have the same Birthday as Deon Tanner and My sister Alex??))
