I hesitated signing up to attend the reunion. Life has not been easy. I've had a lung disease for about 18 years and four years ago was diagnosed with an MAI infection and later with squamous cell cancer. I am going through my second round of chemo and looking at probably more radiation. In the process, I've lost my right eye. This insured my plan to retire. Now I'm just trying to enjoy life while I can. Other than that, life has been good and I'm most happy that Dick Clark doesn't need to find something to say about me in memoriam.
After high school, I attended the U of U and served an LDS mission in Germany. After a six month interruption with Army Reserve active duty, I graduated in Civil Engineering. My wife Kathy graduated in Speech Pathology from the U and worked for the Granite School District, until I could get a full time job.
For ten years I worked for the LDS Church Building Department as a Civil/Structural Engineer. I earned my Civil/Land Surveyor/Structural Engineer licenses and went on to license in 15 other states. I was the project structural engineer, for the Jordan River Temple, Seattle Temple and Sao Paulo Temple along with standard meeting house and temple designs.
I left church employment in 1983 and started my own firm, McNeil Engineering, which I had until I was forced to retire due to health reasons.
I feel good about my life and the things I was able to accomplish. I most proud of my five children and soon to be 14 grandchildren.
We own a cabin in Midway and a town home in St. George. We don't get to them as much as we would like lately, but we enjoy them and have had some memorable times. We hope to travel more if my health improves.
With my tenure on the American Council of Engineers and the Department of Professional Licensing, we enjoyed seeing and staying at many venues across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
We now reside in Murray, Utah in my wife's dream house. Through our forty five plus years of marriage, we have lived in Sugar House, Cottonwood Heights, Willow Creek, and our last stop here in Murray.
With radiation and growing old, my memory is pretty well shot. I hope they give us name tags with big letters. My fondest memories are being part of the CLAN and our graduation trip the New Orleans.
